Empowering Your Health Journey with Expertise and Compassion
Meet
Molly Austin MD MBA FACP
I graduated from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in 1999. As a medical student, I was drawn to the field of internal medicine and completed my residency in 2002 at Beaumont Hospital (now Corewell Health) in Royal Oak, Michigan. Â
As I worked in primary care, I often encountered patients with vague symptoms, who just didn’t feel good, and conventional testing couldn’t provide all the answers.  I also had many midlife female patients who struggled with insomnia, weight gain, poor libido or mood issues.
Many times, I found myself frustrated by the limitations of traditional medicine and my inability to provide adequate information and relief in these situations.
As I sought new challenges and opportunities to expand my skillset, I made the transition to inpatient work, caring exclusively for patients in the hospital and ICU. During this time, I also taught internal medicine to residents and medical students. I treated individuals battling serious conditions such as cancer, autoimmune diseases, heart disease, infections and other critical illnesses. During this period, I too was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis, an autoimmune condition that affected me personally. I also had multiple family members who suffered from dementia, vascular disease and cancer. When the covid-19 pandemic struck, I witnessed firsthand how a viral infection could lead to debilitating chronic illness.Â
These experiences inspired me to explore additional approaches to optimizing wellness and managing illness, ultimately leading to the field of functional medicine.Â
I signed up for training with the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine and am now nearing completion of the advanced fellowship in Anti-Aging and Metabolic Medicine (FAAMM). I have also been studying with a naturopathic doctor, Dr. Cheryl Burdette, since September 2023. I meet weekly with Dr. Burdette and other functional medicine practitioners from across the United States to collaborate and discuss the most the up-to-date solutions for patients.Â
This innovative training, combined with my internal medicine background in the office and hospital, allows me to help patients with complex medical conditions to optimize their long-term health and wellness.
My training also allows me to assist anyone on their health journey who wants to optimize physical and mental health, delay the development of diseases related to aging, or just want to work on weight or hormonal issues.
Functional and anti-aging medicine can pick up where conventional medicine leaves off. Everyone needs a doctor who spends time hearing their unique situation and develops a personalized health plan with them. If you are not sure that functional medicine is right for your health concerns, please schedule a discovery call to discuss how I can help you to enhance your health, improve your quality of life, and foster resilience in the face of challenges.
